The Studio on the Drive is proud to have Ingrid Torrance hosting our Commercial Auditions Workshop, along with Casting Director Sandi Nielsen. Over the course of the day, Ingrid and Sandi will be covering an array of details concerning the business and craft of acting in Commercials. Through a lecture period and some on-camera work, the day will cover:
-Slating – The first impression
-Preparation – What you need to do/ What you need to bring
-Delivery – The subtleties of the commercial audition
-Basics – Wardrobe, eye line, small moments, cheating for
Camera, technical and believability
-Choice – Bringing variety to your audition room
-Cold reads of commercial auditions
- SOC commercial auditions
-Assessment on delivery and presence in the room
About Ingrid Torrance:
A busy and accomplished actress and coach, Ingrid offers knowledge and experience that will help you develop your ability to deliver what’s expected of you in the commercial audition. Ingrid’s extensive experience in Commercials includes:
* A year long CIBC print campaign and 2 National Commercials
* A lead in an international theatrical commercial for Philips home entertainment that was shot in Vancouver and France over 13 days and Directed by a Chleo Award winning Director
* Spokesperson for NBCi.com for one year which brought her the title of “Breakout Star” in Entertainment Weekly Magazine. This led to an on air Hosting gig of the first Live Give Away events on National Television during Prime Time television.
* Many National, International and Regional commercials for Television and Print over the last 20 years.
Sandi Nielsen has been in the industry for over 20 years. She started as a producer’s assistant on Wiseguy to casting assistant to Sid Kozak and Lynne Carrow. In the early 90's Sandi branched off on her own, and has since cast literally hundreds of tv commercials from Huggies, Nintendo, Subway, to Viagra and everything in-between. She has also cast for several short films, many music videos, including Robbie Williams’ very first solo project, and two feature films. Sandi has worked with director of Lemony Snickett-Brad Silberling, the director of Coldplay video Aaron Stoller who also directed the trailer for War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise.

Work your audition chops with a coach
and a casting director! Studio coach Ingrid Torrance will warm the actors
up in the morning with prepared audition sides and casting director Tiffany Mak
will re-work the scenes in the afternoon. An intense and rewarding day of
work.
From 2009 to the present, Tiffany Mak
has cast an eclectic mix of projects through her own casting company, from
independent feature films such as "Two Indians Talking" (2010
Vancouver International Film Festival winner), to the Canadian TV pilot,
"Wolf Canyon" (5 wins, 2010 Leo Awards), to various TV movies appearing
on Lifetime and Syfy.
